Monthly Speaker   John Walling's talk was entitled One thing leads to Another.
John gave an amusing talk, recounting various incidents in his life where there was an unexpected consequence. Born in Atherstone, in Warwickshire, he described incidents of his life there and of his forty year long association with the Scouting movement. He spoke of his search for the antecedents of his German grandfather, who was interned with 35,000 enemy aliens on the Isle of Man during the first world war. Through a contact in Germany he eventually achieved his aim and has since visited their town of birth and met many family connections. He told us about various skeletons in the cupboard, which had led to his family name being changed from Nelson to Walling. John has written four books about his life and brought copies of two of them which were bought by a number of members.

A vote of thanks was given by Christine Hammond, who said that John had demonstrated the need to write things down for future generations. She thanked him for an entertaining talk.

The draw for the mystery parcels took place.
