Having dealt with business as quickly as possible, the President handed over to Jenny Pike.Jenny introduced her friend Carol Vessey who gave us a most entertaining talk on her passion in life- making patchwork quilts. Carol showed us a variety of beautifully designed, brightly coloured quilts which she makes as gifts for friends and family. We were very impressed with a black, white and red quilt, made for a young man about to go to university. The quilt included photographs printed on fabric of the recipient’s family, friends, dog, home and scenes from the village where he lives. Amongst many others, two quilts made for cat lovers and another for a lady who keeps sheep were outstanding for the originality of their design and excellent execution. Carol shared with us her love of fabric, displaying examples of many which she buys when on her travels to see family in New Zealand and on holiday. Most had a connection with the country of origin and were destined to be made into quilts as time permits. Future projects include ‘Australia’, the seaside, ‘Clarice Clift, and ‘New Zealand.’ We were shown a variety of lovely cushions and the technique of creating chenille explained. Carol generously donated a cushion to the raffle, later won by Margaret Ward. Carol was thanked by Josie Ogg for her interesting and entertaining talk and many members took the opportunity to examine the quilts at close quarters.
The committee and members were then invited to enjoy a supper prepared by the members. As always, a generous spread of salads, quiches, cold meats and tempting sweet things was done full justice.
Other raffle prizes were won by Marianne Ogg, Jenny Pike, Pam Wells, Margaret Burton, Margaret Kitchen and Karen Moody The President thanked the members for arranging a very enjoyable evening which had been much appreciated by all
