The President welcomed Kate Baker, flute, and Ian Maxwell, guitar, on their third visit to us. Kate, wearing a beautiful peacock inspired tunic, introduced their programme, which once again set us travelling around the world and included music from Italy, Scotland, USA, Ireland, Argentina and Brazil as well as both modern and traditional English pieces. Ian and Kate gave some background to each rendition and played with spirit and feeling. The 'Ashokan Farewell' and the flamenco, 'Solea e Malaguena, were especially enjoyed. To complete their performance, Catrine accompanied members' singing several traditional carols, concluding with In Dulci Jubilo, said to have been first sung by angels who came down to dance with a fourteenth century monk. Kate said that they always enjoy playing for us and hoped we would invite them again, despite the long journey involved.
Sandra Wilkinson offered sincere thanks, on behalf of all the members, for their sparkling performance and presented them each with a small Christmas gift in token of our appreciation.
Everyone was invited to enjoy a Christmas buffet provided by the committee.
