Monthly Speaker -The President welcomed Alan and Rita from Haslam Woodturning. Having previously set up an impressive amount of equipment, Alan told us that he first tried woodturning on his father's lathe when he was fifteen and has been practising ever since. Beginning his working life as a pattern maker for the now defunct Ruston and Hornsby in Lincoln, he moved on to furniture making and returned to pattern making in 1988. Taking early retirement, Alan began to sell his tired items at craft fairs and travel widely giving talks and demonstrations. Using English oak and laburnum, Alan made two delightful small vases, explaining the method of working and producing a wonderful 'finish'. Everyone was most impressed by the speed and skill he showed and enjoyed the amusing stories he told whilst working. After a short quiz two correct answers were drawn and Nancy and Heather were delighted to receive a vase each. At the end of the talk, members purchased items from the display, manned by Rita, so that many of us took home a souvenir of a very enjoyable evening.
Sandra Wilkinson gave a vote of thanks on behalf of the members, expressing our appreciation of the fine work and very pleasant company.

Jackie and Heather Bateman and Mary Christoffersen served welcome refreshments and the draw for the Mystery Parcels provided by the hostesses and a vase given by Alan took place.
